A HONG KONG Chinese resident celebrated his purchase of a Scottish castle and his ascendancy to the Barony of Mounie on Friday.
The sale of Mounie Castle in Aberdeenshire was completed for a sum in excess of the GBP325,000 ($4 million) offer price, according to Edinburgh sales agents D. J. Alexander. The title is conferred on the purchaser as part of the deal.
Built in 1641, the five-bedroom castle, which is in 'need of sensitive restoration', includes a main hall, library hall, grand public room, turret room, kitchen and two bathrooms.
There is also a house, several outbuildings, gardens and woods on the 15-acre estate.
The new laird of Mounie will live in the castle for at least part of the time, said sales agent David Alexander, proprietor of D. J. Alexander.
Local people were delighted the castle had been sold to someone who was going to put money into improving the 17th century building, he said.
