Police have decided not to install an 'eye in the sky' surveillance system in Temple Street in Yau Mei Tai.

Police began considering the surveillance system after January 9 last year, when a person threw two bottles of corrosive acid from a building. Some 30 people suffered chemical burns, including tourists and children, at the night market.
But Yau Mei Tei district commander Lam Chun-ming ruled out the system. Lam said the lack of a sound lighting system in many buildings in Temple Street would make it difficult for the surveillance cameras to function well. 'After sunset the roofs of all buildings in Temple Street are all dark,' he said, adding that surveillance would be ineffective.
