Disney's 50th animated film is a revamp of Rapunzel, the classic fairytale from the Brothers Grimm.
Tangled tells the story of Rapunzel (voiced by Mandy Moore), a princess with magical golden hair who was kidnapped at birth. She's been kept in a tower by Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy) her whole life and believes she's her real mother.
As her 18th birthday draws near, Rapunzel's only wish is to leave the tower and see the lanterns that float every year on her birthday. But Mother Gothel can't risk Rapunzel finding out the truth about her birth, and forbids it.
A failed robbery leads the dashing Flynn Rider (Zachary Levi) to the tower. Despite being complete opposites, they each have something the other wants: Flynn will take her to see the lanterns; in return, Rapunzel will give back to him the tiara he stole.
In a throwback to classic Disney, a great effort has been made to make the CGI seem hand-drawn, providing a refreshing break from the lifelike animation most films feature.
The song and dance episode at the Snuggly Duckling pub is genius. This is no real surprise: composer/songwriter Alan Menken, who has eight Oscars, wrote the music, which is one of the best parts of the film.
