Who started it? Skalli Paris was founded by Jean-Marc Skalli in 1998. A self-described 'lover of art, design, women and the world', Skalli is the sole designer and creative force behind the accessibly priced label. Taking a modern approach to jewellery design, Skalli developed a unique style marked by the use of bright colours, cultural elements and continual references to pop art and geometric design from the 1960s and 70s. His bold jewellery soon became popular in his native France and, in 2001, the first Skalli Paris boutique opened in the French capital. Today, the brand has six stores across France and numerous Skalli Paris counters in department stores Printemps and Galeries Lafayette.
Why we love it: Skalli Paris pieces are cute, fun, colourful and don't tend to break the bank. Skalli describes the label as 'refreshingly modern with a timeless aesthetic', adding that the woman embodying the Skalli Paris ethos is daringly seductive with a dash of romantic frivolity. For spring-summer the collection is inspired by bohemian styles and incorporates floral and leaf motifs, using a wide range of materials such as enamel, wood, mother of pearl and fabric.
What we'd pick: we like sweet and simple pieces such as the Canne a Sucre ring (below right; HK$590), featuring a leaf made from mother of pearl, and the red, pink and green Bohemian Rhapsody ring (right; HK$390). From the Ebullition line, which features silver and brightly coloured enamel circles, we pick the green, purple and silver earrings (HK$850) and the green, black and silver necklace (both above; HK$750).
