When music producer-turned-singer turned-actor Hanjin Tan was named Best New Artist at the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards last week, his manager turned fianc? screamed so loud she lost her voice for two days. 'We didn't think we had a shot to win,' said Tan, whose performance as Bruce Lee's childhood friend in Bruce Lee, My Brother triumphed over double nominee Dennis To Yue-hong, a favourite with two nominations for separate Ip Man flicks. Still, Tan looked dapper for the night, in a black suit with a white bowtie, designed by Allen Lo (pictured left with Tan). Last Friday night at the rooftop bar of the Crowne Plaza in Causeway Bay, the two got together for a joint celebration: for the first anniversary of Lo's tailoring-specialist company Division One and Tan's award win. Educated in England, where he picked up his fashion sense, Lo said his vision with Division One is to provide high quality, affordable bespoke suits for those interested in looking good. 'Anyone can look good in the right suit,' he said. Tan, who met Lo during the making of his last album, Buy 1 Get 1 Free, is definitely a big fan, saying the material used on the shirt and suit won him over. Perhaps he'll need a few more suits made for more award ceremonies later this year, as Tan is nearing completion of his mandarin album, which he hopes to release in a couple of months.
