Unlike her upscale penthouse restaurant, Sevva, in Prince's Building, style-savvy Bonnie Gokson picked a Chinese tong lau on Gough Street for her bespoke cake shop, Ms B's Cakery. For Friday's grand opening party, Gokson booked the Shanghainese restaurant next to her cakery for the extra space. She unveiled 15 styles of cakes that are different from Sevva's signature chocolate crunch cake and Marie Antoinette's Crave. 'I like the contrast of this neighbourhood and Sevva. This is a neighbourhood full of characteristics,' said Gokson. Guests braved the rain to congratulate her and savour her cakes. The cakes have colourful looks as well as catchy names such as Better Than Sex (chocolate fudge cake with sugar red lip garnish) and Butterfly Kisses (rainbow colour sponge cake with white frosting and sugar butterflies). 'When you eat, it's more about enjoying the look as much as the taste of it. Life is full of energy and colour, and that's how I deal with cakes as well,' she said. The crowd celebrated at Sevva, also, to mark its third anniversary. Guests sipped champagne and 'wowed' as they watched the royal wedding live on TV. 'It's one of the most anticipated events of the year and everyone is going to be in festive mood, so what better way than to celebrate with the cakery launch and Sevva's birthday ... triple treat!'
