Foo Fighters' newest album, Wasting Light, rocketed to number one on the Billboard 200 chart in the first week it was released. The band's seventh album revives their earlier fast-and-fierce sound. With founding guitarist Pat Smear returning as an official member, Foo Fighters do what they do best: hard-hitting rock with high-reaching choruses.
The album opens with the fiery rock track Bridge Burning, with a tight beat and deft guitar notes. The catchy melody screams to be played at the highest volume.
Hit single Rope continues the mood with a catchy guitar riff and a lively beat. The track buzzes with energy and keeps the adrenaline running. The song ends with a surprise surge of riff-bombs as the melody fades, reminding you that there is still more tracks to get psyched about.
It's refreshing to see Foo Fighters experiment with their sound. Most notably, former Nirvana member Krist Novoselic, who joins ex-Nirvana band mate Dave Grohl, shows off his bass and accordion-playing skills on I Should Have Known. He helps create a masterful power ballad with a hint of blues.
Wasting Light is a superb album packed with foot-tapping, head-bobbing energy. The band's old and new fans alike will love it.
