Name: Sammy Leung Chi-kin Born: Hong Kong Zodiac: Sagittarius Chinese zodiac: Ox Profession: DJ of Commercial Radio Hong Kong Other professions: Voice actor, actor, TV host, singer The happiest time in my career ... was when I took part in radio dramas. I was responsible for everything, from dubbing and writing scripts to directing. In the end, I just sat back and enjoyed the broadcasts. I did have high and low points in my career ... because you are destined to have a low point after you have reached a high point. I have been riding high over the past few years so a low point may well come. But perhaps because of my religious beliefs, I have learned to see the world differently. When you are at a low point in your career, you can use the experience to learn from it and turn it into an advantage. Career lows also let you realise the importance of other things in life, like friends and family. To those teenagers who want to be DJs ... I would say an important requirement for the job is a love of talking and communicating. You also need to have a clear idea of what kind of show you want to produce before you go on the air every time. You cannot just always improvise. Be like a sponge so you absorb different things. That way, you can develop a wider range of interests and communication skills. Being a voice actor for the animation Sammy's Adventure: The Secret Passage ... was actually very difficult, especially because it is a foreign movie. The animated lip movements of the characters were designed to match the speech of the foreign voice actors. When we dubbed the movie into Chinese, we had to make sure that we spoke in sync with the animated characters' lip movements. It was very difficult but we had a coach to teach us the tricks. The reason I agreed to take the role of Sammy was the sense of satisfaction [I got]. It was a rare chance for me to be the main character in such a blockbuster. To lend a fitting voice to the sea turtle in the movie ... I spoke in a soft and gentle voice. I also improvised a bit by turning English slang into Chinese slang. There was a huge variety of Chinese slang expressions I could choose from, so I had to pick the right ones according to the character of the sea turtle. It was also important to try to stay as close to the meaning of the original English expressions as possible. Sammy the sea turtle travels around the world ... which is something that appeals to me. I like to go camping, rock-climbing, swimming and scuba-diving. The more you explore Mother Nature, the broader your horizons become. The movie's sea turtle has an adventurous spirit that we humans often lack. We stay trapped in our small places and do not go out to see the world.
