WHAT a considerate man is Michael Kadoorie. The techno-minded chairman of Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels decreed that his boffins come up with a gadget that will stop pedestrians going past his Peninsula flagship along Salisbury Road from getting sprayed by the ornate fountain in front of the hotel.

So now in place is a specially designed wind meter which regulates the thrust of the fountain's sprinkler system according to the strength of the wind, thereby eliminating kerbside spray. It also means, of course, that the Pen's Rolls-Royces which are parked behind the fountain have to be taken to a proper car wash!
