Just how intense is new thriller The Detective 2? According to star Aaron Kwok Fu-shing, it's so scary he had to leave his mother behind for Wednesday night's Times Square premiere.

'I was originally bringing my mother as a date tonight, but her heart condition isn't too good,' the 45-year-old megastar singer and actor (pictured second left at the premiere) said.

Also missing was Kwok's rumoured girlfriend Lynn Xiong Dailin, who was out of town working.

Instead, Kwok's good friends Anita Yuen Wing-yee and Julian Cheung Chi-lam were on hand to show their support.

Directed by Oxide Pang Chun, The Detective 2 picks up where the first one left off, with Kwok's paranoid detective, Tam, once again snooping around Thailand to unravel a murder mystery.

The premiere was one giant marketing campaign, with Kwok, Pang and co-star Liu Kai-chi all dressed in Chevignon 'blue label' jeans, which were specially designed for the film.
