Darren Beadman fought the stewards tooth and nail and it just wasn't enough to keep him off the suspended list for his ride on Panna yesterday in the Macwhinnie Cup. There's an old adage that jockeys rarely get suspended on a good horse and Beadman reckoned Panna's lack of experience and racing know-how had everything to do with interference that led to the two-day suspension and HK$40,000 fine that walked out of the stipes' room with him. The Australian was the last rider to leave the course after mounting a vigorous defence of his performance, but to no avail. It was the fourth stretch for careless riding this season for Beadman, who is nevertheless enjoying his best-ever Hong Kong season with 49 victories. Beadman commences the penalty after Tuesday's holiday meeting for Buddha's Birthday and will return in time for the May 21 fixture.
