Yesterday was the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures rising to about 34 degrees Celsius in urban areas. At the Observatory in Tsim Sha Tsui, the mercury hit 32.9 degrees at 2.30pm but in Kowloon City it rose to 34.1 degrees. Tuen Mun recorded 33.8 degrees, while at Shek Kong it was 33.6 degrees. A southerly airstream was bringing hot weather to the city, said acting senior scientific officer Chan Sai-tick. Sunny intervals were forecast today with showers and a maximum temperature of 31 degrees, he said.
