The aircraft had a single seat and a single engine. Unlike today's planes, its outer skin was made of fabric. There was no front window, so the pilot had to look out of the side windows.

The cockpit was so small, Lindbergh could not stretch his legs. The stiff wicker seat was very uncomfortable. It was made like this to keep the pilot awake during the flight.

The Spirit of St Louis is on display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington.
