Wong Woon-kay, 41, is on trial before Sha Tin Magistrate Michael Jenkins.
Prosecutor Bernard Ryan said when an assistant trainer's job came up in February 1992, Wong approached Hung Wai-tak.
Wong allegedly asked for the bribe, which he said went to another person, and indicated it would be repaid if Hung was unsuccessful. In March, Hung transferred $300,000 into a bank account nominated by Wong.
Hung will continue giving evidence under immunity.
