AUDIO engineers will this afternoon begin testing a $4 million sound system at Hong Kong Stadium designed to keep the volume of concerts at legal levels.
The system, set up yesterday, will also be tested tomorrow and Thursday while a second, equally expensive system, will be tested next week.
The spokesman for stadium managers Wembley International, Eddie Wong, said about 30 concert promoters had been invited to hear the systems.
The systems are designed to concentrate sound rather than spread it out, Mr Wong said. The legal audio levels during the day are 70 decibels with a maximum of 65 decibels allowed during the evening.
Mr Wong said the cost of the systems would ultimately be recovered through rental charges to the concert promoters. Sound systems are normally brought in by the hirer of the stadium.
'They usually bring their own gear but they don't always satisfy the requirements of the law,' Mr Wong said.
