TSUEN Wan Government Secondary School student Yau Ka-fai was the centre of attention at his school's speech day recently.
The Form Six student had done his school proud by obtaining the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Scholarship for overseas studies and winning a bronze medal in the Sixth International Information Olympiad in Sweden.
Ng Chi-wang of Form Seven was the other happy student celebrating his success. He had passed the London Chamber of Commerce Levels 1 and 3 Accounting Examination with flying colours and had come first in both Hong Kong and the world. Other awardees included Form Seven students Tam Yau-yee (who had won the Stephen Cheong Memorial Scholarship), Cheung Yim-ying and Chan Yuen-hull (winners of the Hong Kong Bank Scholarships).
The prizes were presented by Dr Lam Man-ping, senior lecturer of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Speaking at the ceremony, principal Tang Ping-leung said: 'It is nice to see full student participation in various activities and competitions and service. By participating in these activities, they have learned the true meaning of giving and sharing, co-operation and sacrifice.' Mr Tang added that the school would continue to stress civic and moral education.
'Form periods have proved to be effective in helping students recognise and analyse their problems in studies and life.
