This month, Marni, in partnership with Joyce, opened the doors to its first pop-up shop in Hong Kong. The impressive space, which will be open until the end of the year, was designed by brothers Marco and Saverio Lanza, of Italy-based creative agency Pastis.

Based on a concept that seeks to be both aesthetically pleasing and green, the design was executed using simple techniques and readily available materials. The space's existing vintage mirrors and chairs were retained and enhanced with coloured PVC tape; display cases were made from painted sheet metal; and racks made from tubular pipes were welded and bolted together, making them easy to disassemble and reuse.

Before building the pop-up store, the techniques were put to the test by the designers, who erected a prototype in an unused hangar in Milan's industrial district.

The shop will stock Marni Winter Edition 2011, a playful and graphic women's capsule collection. The wide range of pieces runs the gamut from masculine-inspired to girly and sweet. The line reflects the mishmash aesthetic for which the Italian label is known.

Incorporating an array of prints that include polka dots, tapestry-inspired designs, hearts and kaleidoscope-like patterns, the collection also draws on a bold colour palette of khaki, grey, bottle green and near-neon shades of blue, yellow, red and pink.

Standouts include the green leather jacket (HK$14,500), the navy and black trousers (HK$5,200) and green printed top (all far left; HK$5,300). We also like the bright pink printed jacket (HK$9,500) worn with a red skirt (both left; HK$3,900) in a loud matching print.
