Children in Hong Kong spend much of their time acquiring knowledge and practical skills at school and in a variety of extra-curricular classes.

There is often little opportunity for them to develop their sense of independence, personal awareness and level of self-confidence.
The YMCA of Hong Kong is running courses on personal growth during the summer holidays.
'Our workshops provide students with new experiences that they wouldn't have access to at school, including confidence-building activities, developing leadership skills, enhancing creativity, developing critical thinking skills and academic training,' says Joyce Wong, from the social services, outreach activities and leisure education section of the YMCA of Hong Kong (www.ymca hk.org.hk).
The YMCA will run two whole-day courses (9.30am to 5.30pm) called Leadership Training and Little Ironman.

Leadership Training is open to children aged five to nine. They will learn about accepting responsibility, developing self-confidence, being an effective team member and the value of controlling emotions.
