Herdade do Esporao, Galega
Using Galega olives which are Portugal's main variety, this is an oil from Alentejo, southeastern Portugal, by an estate with a long history of winemaking that started producing olive oils in 1997. Olives come from the estate, as well as twenty growers in the immediate region, and produce an oil with fruity, lemony notes and a slightly bitter finish. The texture is less rounded, but for everyday salads and drizzling, it has enough character and is great value for money.

Premiere Pression Provence, Les Olivettes de Lure
With the intensity of freshly cut grass both on the nose and the palate, this is our top pick for those looking for a distinctive olive oil that's tasty enough on its own for a glug here, there and everywhere - be it with a crusty chunk of sourdough or over a tomato salad. It has obtained AOP (Appellation d'Origine Protegee) status, the European equivalent of the French certification of origin Appellation d'Origine Controlee.
