Your Facebook profile can backfire
 According to an expert headhunter, your Facebook profile can harm your career prospects. 
In a recent survey, more than two-thirds of hiring managers said they checked potential candidates' Facebook profiles before offering them a job. 
Facebook is a great platform for keeping in touch with friends and making new contacts. Yet many users are careless about what information they reveal about themselves. 
Others unwittingly show themselves in a less than flattering light by posting certain videos and photos or using foul language.
When an employer sees that, you may end up losing your job. 
You should use Facebook judiciously. What you post there may one day come back to haunt you.

In praise of reading lots of books
Young people enjoy playing video games and twiddling with their gadgets. They spend less and less time reading books. 
A reading habit should be an integral part of our life. 
Reading is not just a leisure activity but a crucial tool that enhances our knowledge. Books provide a window to many cultures, while offering important information about various topics.
Good books can increase our curiosity and encourage us to investigate a subject further.
As Alfred Tennyson wrote in his poem Ulysses: 'One equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will. To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.'
We may indeed encounter hurdles on our way to knowledge, but we should persist in our quest to seek the truth, to find out more about the world, and to strive for a better future. 
The more curious we are, the more we learn. By reading, we can learn about different peoples, places, cultures, food, sports, creatures, religions, ideas, and so on.
Books are invaluable tools for getting to know the world and our place in it. Books enrich our lives. 
I urge you to make a habit of serious reading. You won't regret it.

Harrow School is very much welcome
 I am writing to comment on the recent establishment of a division of Harrow School in Hong Kong. 
Our chief executive, Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, said it  was a milestone on the road to developing Hong Kong as a regional education hub. 
Yet some critics say the move is like building a flashy house on sand. They insist that Hong Kong should put its own flawed education system in order first before trying to woo famous international schools. 
Personally, I do not see a conflict between the two. There's no doubt, our education system needs to be reviewed and improved. Yet the establishment of a prominent international school like Harrow will greatly benefit the city. 
As Hong Kong seeks to attract skilled foreign professionals, schools like Harrow  guarantee that their children can receive high-quality education here. That is a major consideration for many families.
Two of our major competitors, Shanghai and Singapore, have already joined up with  prominent secondary and tertiary schools to boost the profile of local education. Hong Kong should be thankful to Harrow for coming here.

Hong Kong traffic is a blight on the city
 Hong Kong's pollution levels are awful. Much of it is caused by the many vehicles on the city's streets.
We are trying to reduce the number of cars with idling engines by giving leaflets to drivers to warn them of the environmental costs. 
Idling engines generate lots of exhaust fumes. They worsen air pollution and cause respiratory problems such as asthma.
We can all pitch in by reminding drivers to turn off their engines.
According to a study available online, the number of idling cars has been greatly reduced over the past decade. That is largely thanks to a green campaign in the city. But we still have a long way to go.
I welcome the government's decision to introduce a HK$320 fine for drivers who run the engines of their idling cars for more than three minutes.
