Borrowing, the act of taking something with the intention of returning it, takes on a whole new meaning when it refers to a person, as is the case in the Hilary Swank-produced rom-com, Something Borrowed.
Based on Emily Giffin's novel of the same name, the film revolves around an attorney Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) and BFF Darcy (Kate Hudson), who have been inseparable since childhood.
However, on Rachel's 30th birthday, her moral compass guides her into rocky territory, after she falls for Darcy's husband-to-be, Dex (Colin Egglesfield).
To complicate matters further, Rachel has known Dex since law school, but both have been less than open about their feelings towards each other.
Something Borrowed tracks the trials and tribulations of a friendship of two contrasting personalities: Rachel is the sweet, hopeless romantic who's always single; Darcy epitomises 'Generation Me' and always gets her way, especially with men.
No doubt, we're meant to root for Rachel, the underdog, but Darcy actually proves far more intriguing.
