HONG KONG handled 6.15 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in the first seven months of the year, up 22.4 per cent year-on-year. Singapore handled 6.77 million TEUs in the period. Throughput at container terminals at Kwai Chung and Stonecutters Island was up 28.8 per cent, from 3.12 million to 4.02 million TEUs. River trade accounted for 510,316 TEUs, up 61.8 per cent from the 315,452 TEUs recorded in the first seven months of last year. There was a 1.4 per cent rise in containers handled midstream and elsewhere, from 1.59 million to 1.61 million TEUs.
