People are spending more time online these days. There is concern that we might have become addicted to cyberspace and are starting to neglect things we traditionally valued. Since the trend seems unstoppable, we could try to save these traditions by allowing them to be reborn in computers.
One way would be to create a free online public library.
Firstly, it could give more people the opportunity to enjoy literary and cultural treasures. Some people say they have no time to go to a bookshop or the library. A free online public library would be readily accessible, so there should be no more excuses for not reading.
Secondly, it could encourage children and teenagers to read. Youngsters are often criticised for not reading but instead surfing the net for entertainment. A free online public library with a wide range of books would offer them the chance to rediscover the pleasures of reading.
