Downloading music and films online has become very popular, but some people are doing it illegally.

People can now access entertainment with just a few clicks, and at a very low cost, or even free.

However, unauthorised downloaders may be violating copyrights, which could constitute a criminal offence. Therefore, they face jail or large fines.

Also, illegal downloading results in falling income at entertainment companies. Ultimately, this reduces consumers' options because firms will be unwilling to invest in new artists or films. The ultimate victims will be the downloaders themselves.

But internet users continue to illegally download music and films because they know the chance of being caught is small.

So while we are getting short-term benefits from free downloading, we are damaging the entertainment industry in the long run. Is it worth saving a few dollars while diminishing our society's wealth and creativity?
