Vibe: This is a small, friendly noodle shop. It has an old-fashioned feel without being self-consciously retro. Its plain white walls are decorated with modern-style Chinese paintings.
Who to take: This is a good eatery for both family and friends at any time of day, and there are numerous vegetarian options.
What's hot: The dumplings are freshly made to order. Most kinds are made with pork with either cabbage, leek, celery or courgette. There are also beef, mutton and vegetarian options. They can be served either in soup, with noodles or fried.
The Jumbo Shanghainese wonton (bottom right) are eight monster-sized dumplings of pork and pak choi served in a broth that can be seasoned with soy and chillies according to taste. The wrap for these is quite heavy and, as the dumplings are already very big, they require a considerable amount of chopstick dexterity. But they are well worth the effort
If you are not in the mood for dumplings, a small selection of dishes, such as roast chicken, curry pork chop and beef stew, are served with rice or noodles.
