Girlish delight was the sentiment of the day at an H&M showroom when 10 junior reporters visited last month. An air of excitement ran through the much anticipated workshop, as the fashion addicts kept their eyes and ears open for any style tips, and the latest news in fashion, and tried on items from the new collections. Here's what they learned: Even though the scorching sun still hangs in the sky, H&M is slated to release its autumn and winter clothes as soon as the middle of this month. Young Post junior reporters had a golden opportunity to explore the brand's showroom and check out the trends for the coming season. The main idea coming up in the next few months is 'back to ancient times'. H&M has defined four themes in its autumn/winter collections: the 1960s, Simplicity, New England and Shadow Land. Of the four themes, the 60s-inspired designs are the most colourful and joyful. Warm autumn colours such as pumpkin and camel are plentiful, matched with huge florals and tweed prints. The optimistic and lively tone is set to lend warm and happy feelings to a chilly winter. Some of the cardigans come in exquisite knitted patterns. Wide, high-waisted trousers, together with ankle boots, will also be popular. The next collection, Simplicity, presents timeless pieces such as plain cardigans and knitted dresses. It is inspired by brands Donna Karan, Celine and Calvin Klein, which are famous for their enduring designs. As its name suggests, Simplicity features classic dresses, mainly in green and beige. Scarves, leggings or boots would be a perfect match. New England plays up rich tones such as cognac on blouses and calf-length skirts, matched with denim or checks. This trend creates a more elegant and grown-up feel. In contrast to the first three themes, Shadow Land is a dark series inspired by vampires and the Victorian age. It features mostly black items and gives a sense of romance, drama and, somehow, evil. The centrepiece is an all-in-one light brown halter-neck. This simple piece is best paired with a belt and a statement bracelet instead of a necklace, because your neck will already be graced by a silver cord. For footwear, H&M has ankle boots and long leather boots to offer. If you don't like boots, go for a pair of high-top trainers. The advised accessory is a broad hat, tipped to be a super hit this autumn. Through the workshop, we learned that a person's style and outfit each day is one way of self-expression. Each piece reflects the person's mood and gives an idea of her character.
