Who started it? Judith Milgrom founded French label Maje in 2000, having inherited a love of fashion from her mother and grandmother, who taught her to design and make clothes. Today, there are 22 Maje stores in Paris and another 27 spread across the rest of France. A further 25 stores are scattered around the world and the label is stocked in many high-end department stores. Maje merged with French brands Sandro and Claudie Pierlot to form SMCP Group, which was bought by luxury giant LVMH last year.
Why we love it: the clothes are feminine without being too sweet, stylish without being too trendy and sophisticated yet youthful in spirit. In its autumn-winter collection, silhouettes are clean and colours include classic wintery tones such as black, navy, tan and red. We also love the fact that the clothes will last beyond the season and that individual pieces are easy to mix into your wardrobe. It's chic French fashion at its best.
What we'd pick: the tan and black coat (HK$4,350) has a great shape and works well with simple black jeans (both right; HK$1,825). For something more fun, we love the red cape dress (far right; HK$2,750).
Where can you get it? Maje is available at Rue Madame, IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2234 7880.
