University denies suicide tied to orientation camp
The suicide on Monday of a Chinese University first-year physics student at her Pok Fu Lam home was not the result of anything that happened on her four-day orientation camp, the university said. Police said Fiona Lee, 19, left a suicide note, but it did not give a reason for her suicide. Her death two days after the end of the camp led to rumours that it was related to inappropriate activities on the camp. University vice-chancellor Joseph Sung Jao-yiu said in a condolence letter yesterday: 'We have learnt from Fiona's family, a secondary school teacher close to her, and other students who participated in the orientation camp, that Fiona had not been intimidated or shown any trait of distress during ... the camp.'
