Firemen's air cushion saves suicidal woman

A 67-year-old woman survived a suicide attempt yesterday when she landed on an air cushion set up by firemen below her 35th-floor Wong Tai Sin flat. The woman, who jumped while firemen were trying to break into her flat, was taken conscious to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.

Protest march demands apology from Henry Tang

About a dozen Democratic Party representatives marched to the new government headquarters to protest against comments by Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen, who dismissed as 'complete rubbish' claims that the government had violated civil rights and free speech during Vice-Premier Li Keqiang's visit last week. They demanded that he withdraw the remarks and apologise for them.

300 approved for reverse mortgages in first month

About 300 applications for reverse mortgages have been approved since the scheme was launched last month, the Mortgage Corporation says. They involve properties valued at between HK$2 million and HK$8 million. Under the scheme, the elderly can use their homes as collateral to receive a fixed monthly sum for the rest of their lives.
