The biggest surprise at Gucci's latest fashion presentation wasn't that the show escaped typhoon disruption - unlike in the past three years. It was Gucci's special guest model, Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi. On modelling duty for the first time at the Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, the actress trotted down the runway in an open-back, see-through dress from the Italian fashion house's new autumn-winter collection. The flirty dress hung elegantly on her frame. It was hard not to think that she was trying to look her best after recent stressful legal negotiations in her divorce from actor Nicholas Tse Ting-fung. Looking like a catwalk veteran during the show's finale, Cheung received a warm standing ovation from the audience. The front row seated a slew of local and overseas celebrities, including Taiwanese heartthrobs Ethan Ruan Ching-tien and Jiro Wang Dong-cheng, and Canto-pop singer William So Wing-hong. Stealing the spotlight now that they've admitted they're in a relationship were Florinda Ho Chiu-wan (daughter of casino mogul Stanley Ho Hung-sun) and boyfriend Joel Chan San-chung, an actor whose star is on the rise. Celebrating its 90th anniversary this year, Gucci set up a special exhibition area at the venue to showcase special-edition goodies. This included a Fiat 500 car produced through collaboration with Gucci creative director Frida Giannini and Fiat Centro Stile, and a range of retro-inspired sunglasses.
