Many people struggle with using a combination of knife and fork because both tools have dual purposes.

Forks are used for spearing or holding food while it is being cut, and for lifting the food from the plate to the mouth.

On the other hand, you should never put your knife in your mouth. Its role is to cut food or guide it onto the fork.

Eggs, omelette, bacon and waffles are all Western breakfast items that you will need knives and forks to eat. Usually you get two knives: a small one to butter bread, and a larger one for eating.

American food isn't often considered healthy, but their salads can be. Be warned, the portions are big. Tackle a classic Caesar salad to show off your knife and fork skills.
