Born in 1937, painter David Hockney (below) is considered one of the most important British artists alive today and was an important contributor to the Pop art movement of the 1960s. Frequent attention is paid to his mastery and control over colour.
CATHERINE YASS
Trained at the Slade School of Art and nominated for the Turner Prize in 2002, British painter Catherine Yass is known for experimenting with processing and colour. Her images of people and interiors are often shown in lightboxes. The effect is unreal and supernatural.
