Hong Kong has experienced one of the hottest Augusts since 1884, the Hong Kong Observatory says.
Temperatures reached an average reading of 29.5 degree Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees warmer than last year. The same record was seen in 1990 and 1998.
Mercury levels hit 35 degrees on August 7.
The phenomenon was caused by a dominating sub-tropical ridge over southern China, which brought fewer clouds and finer days.
Compared with past figures over the period, August was sunnier, with a monthly sunshine duration of 242hours, or 52.3 hours more.
The month also experienced drier weather. The total rainfall of 157.6 millimetres accounted for only 35 per cent of the amount last August. Accumulated rainfall since January 1 has dropped 42 per cent relative to last year's figures, from 1,873.7 to 1,092.3 millimetres.
