A Norwegian has been arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his flatmate after his wife fell from the third floor of a Discovery Bay apartment.

Police said the Uzbek woman, 26, accidentally fell from a bedroom balcony in Crestline Mansion, Siena One Drive, early yesterday. She suffered head and arm injuries and was in a stable condition in hospital.

The man, 35, identified only as Fredrick, was arrested for criminal intimidation. Police said he threatened the man renting the flat, a British teacher called Paul, about the same time as the Norwegian's wife fell off the balcony.

Police believe the recently married couple were drunk at the time of the incident.

An officer said there was no sign of struggle or fighting.

'It is possible that she climbed on a table on the balcony and fell,' the officer said. 'No evidence suggests she was pushed.'

The couple arrived in Hong Kong in July and got married last month. They shared an apartment with the teacher, 44, in Discovery Bay.
