Facebook is launching its third and biggest redesign in an effort to stay on top of the social networking heap.

The overhaul brings a novel news feed, live news ticker, greater privacy control, and much more.

Facebook's engineering manager Mark Tonkelowitz says he hopes the new features will make it 'easier to keep up with the people in your life no matter how frequently or infrequently you're on Facebook'.

The site has turned its central news feed into a 'personal newspaper'. Likewise, while updates used to slide down in chronological order, the site now evaluates posts. It features the most interesting ones on top.

Tonkelowitz says Facebook uses several factors to decide what deserves top billing.

The site looks at your relationship with a person who posted the story and how popular the post is with other users.
