Maxing it up with brooches in full bloom

Nothing says 'maximalism' better than oversized pink and red fabric flower brooches - OK, maybe neon tights or pink highlights. But it looks like understated is overrated in the coming season.

The girls at Kate Spade New York's store opening cocktail at its Pacific Place branch last Thursday obviously couldn't agree more. More than 200 guests turned up to party, each donning the fabric flowers. Their outfits may have been monochromatic, but their accessories were nothing but bold - think book clutch, sequined satchel and cute corgi pup.

After a night of free-flowing bubbly and eye candy, the girls left not just with their shopping bags, but also with their portraits sketched by artist Mariko Jesse.
