Parents need to find a balance

'Tiger mother' Amy Chua has sparked serious debate about parenting with her iron-fisted child-rearing techniques.

She believes that to become high achievers, children need to be trained to be obedient and diligent.

Parental discipline also helps children acquire the social and emotional skills required for success in a knowledge-based society.

I think that too much parental interference may stifle children's creativity. In my opinion, strong guidance is vital to children when they are young and have not yet developed moral values.

Disciplining should be gradually relaxed as children grow up so that they can become more independent.

That will help teenagers to reach their full potential.
