Cooking novices take heart: if Noob can do it, so can you (to adapt a phrase from celebrity chef Martin Yan).
Noob Cook (noobcook.com) modestly uses definitions from the urban dictionary to describe herself: a noob is 'someone who is new to a game ... or something' and 'someone who completely and utterly sucks at what they are doing'.
Wiffy, from Singapore, says, 'Being a noob at cooking doesn't deter me from entering the kitchen and trying to whip up a storm'.
Her food looks pretty good to me, although she admits to only posting about her successful dishes. She's smart enough to stick with fairly simple recipes - no highly decorated, beautifully plated food that requires intricately carved garnishes and several sauces.
Unlike many novice cooks who stick rigidly to a recipe, she's not afraid to adapt and simplify recipes. Wiffy's dishes include baked mackerel, fish cake omelette, mapo tofu (above), mui choi (preserved vegetable) with pork belly, steamed cockles with garlic and chilli, Marmite pasta with mushrooms, and roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar.
She also occasionally posts videos in which she shows how to cut spring onions for garnishing and how to cut a flower pattern on to mushrooms.
