In Hong Kong, mainlanders often receive negative comments about their behaviour. Just last week, there was a photograph on Facebook of a mainland mother helping her child urinate in an MTR station.

Many people commented on the photograph.

'I've seen mainland kids peeing on the streets of Mong Kok myself and they're girls. It's crazy!' Facebook user Emily Chung says. 'The first thing that came to my mind was: if it is seen by visitors, it will definitely ruin the [positive] image of Hong Kong.'

Chung will often avoid going to places frequented by mainlanders but they seem to be everywhere.

'You can easily identify them on the MTR. They are the ones who speak very loudly, block the way and force the door open while it's closing,' Chung says.

Canadian-Chinese Andrew Wu, a 17-year-old student from King George V School, agrees. 'They talk too loud on the phone and they spit everywhere. They're disrespectful to others.'

His classmate Norma Danue, an Italian-Chinese, adds: 'It's annoying when you go in a shop to find loads of mainlanders, all squabbling and trying to buy stuff, being loud and pushing you.'
