TRAFFIC in east and west Kowloon along Ching Cheung Road, Lai Chi Kok, was disrupted for more than 14 hours yesterday when a container fell off a moving truck.
Police and highway engineers worked late into the night to clear the blockage and expected to have the job done by 2 am.
The road had to be closed completely in both directions after the container full of audio equipment crashed into a huge road sign just before noon and came to rest on the concrete divider between the carriageways.
The sign was in danger of collapsing and police said they could not remove the container immediately fearing the sign would topple over. By mid-afternoon one lane in each direction was reopened.
Police advised motorists heading for Kwun Tong to use Butterfly Valley Road and to use Castle Peak Road if heading for Kwai Chung.
The 21-year-old driver sustained slight injuries and was taken to Caritas Medical Centre where he was in a fair condition.
