An elderly man who molested a census officer in his flat was jailed yesterday for 27 days.
Shum Kwan-tak, 80, was convicted in Kwun Tong Court of indecent assault for touching the breast and private parts of the victim in July while she was taking census data in his home on the Choi Hung Estate.
The tearful 18-year-old, indentified only as X, said Shum was alone when she entered the flat. She asked for his name and Shum said he could not hear her. He then grasped her arm and leaned towards her. X felt his forearm rubbing against her left breast for a few seconds.
Shum then touched her private parts with his other hand. He told her not to be scared. She then packed her things and left immediately.
She told a colleague who was working in the same building and reported it to the police that night.
Shum's lawyer, Kenny Chan, questioned X's memory, saying the event could have happened in another flat with another man, as X previously told the police that there was a round table and a black sofa in the flat, but there was only a square table and no black sofa in Shum's flat.
