It looks just like the previous model, but the new iPhone 4S from Apple delivers what may be the most advanced feature on any current mobile phone - a technology called Siri.
Described by Apple as an intelligent assistant, Siri offers a command system that carries out the user's spoken instructions.
It can understand commands in English, French and German. Chinese will be added next year.
Siri has helped me make calls by locating the relevant number in my address book, send e-mails, schedule an appointment with my doctor, search the internet, get the weather forecast, play tunes from my music playlist and set my alarm clock.
The first time I tried the female-voiced software programme, I was on a ferry where the ambient noise made it hard for Siri to understand my query. I asked: 'Play Earth, Wind and Fire.' It replied: 'Hello Bien, I can't help you with your flight?' The response was not what I wanted, but she had me at 'hello'.
Once I learned its limitations, I did not have any problem with my queries and commands. I said: 'play Yo-yo Ma.' And sure enough, it shot back with the artist's name and played a track from the album on my playlist.
