OVER 3,000 walkers from 30 travel companies and hotels took part in the third 'Tourism Walks for Charity', aimed at raising $1.5 million for the Hong Kong Society for Rehabilitation, the Travel and Tourism Education Programme and Friends of the Earth.

Walkers had to complete a designated trail inside and around Stanley Fort in less than two hours, while more than 100 schoolchildren were preparing a gigantic junk banner for the Hong Kong Tourist Association.

Meanwhile, sounding a pop note in town was eccentric British singer Cyndi Lauper, who gave two highly successful concerts at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

Lauper, who has 'seasonal' habits with her hair and whose hair was purple in spring, told reporters that she was inspired by tulips to 'paint' her hair yellow this summer.
