CUHK was established in 1963 and its Graduate School founded three years later. By September this year, it had more than 11,000 undergraduates and 12,000 full- and part-time postgraduates. From 2001-02 to 2011-12, the number of postgraduate research students rose from 1,608 to more than 2,100. Students of taught postgraduate programmes jumped from 4,033 to more than 10,400, an increase of more than 150 per cent. The Graduate School offers a wide range of research and taught degrees up to doctorate level. Large programmes include its juris doctor, MBA and teacher training, with taught master's programmes in professional and less work-specific subjects. New programmes in 2012-13 are MPhil and PhD in Biomedical Engineering, MA in Japanese Studies, MSc in Architectural Conservation and Design, MSc in Urban Design, MSc in Diagnostic Ultrasonography, MSc in Neurological Sciences, and MSc in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Quality.
