Veteran journalists, including Lucy Chan Wai-yee, who took part in Civic Party lawmaker Alan Leong Kah-kit's campaign for chief executive in 2007, have joined Henry Tang Ying-yen's new public relations team.
Chan also served as former chief secretary Anson Chan Fang On-sang's media adviser when she ran in the Legislative Council by-election for Hong Kong Island in 2007.
Chan said the standpoints of the chief executive hopeful were in line with mainstream views in Hong Kong. 'Mr Tang's team should comprise people from different backgrounds,' she said. 'It would be good if my close ties to the pan-democratic camp adds credit to Mr Tang.'
Other ex-journalists on Tang's team include former TVB journalist Tse Choi-wan and Denise Hung Hiu-king, the Information Services Department's Chinese-language editor. The team is led by PR veteran Jenny Fung Ma Kit-han, wife of former Legislative Council secretary general Ricky Fung Choi-cheung.
Meanwhile, a source said another chief executive hopeful, Leung Chun-ying, was expected to declare his candidacy at the end of the month. His campaign team includes Better Hong Kong Foundation executive director Karen Tang Shuk-tak.
Leung yesterday signed up as a candidate for election to the Election Committee that picks the chief executive. He will contest the subsector for members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
