Ada Li Wing-yan is a project manager in television with a keen appreciation for food and wine. Li likes to travel and recently visited Taiwan for the first time in 10 years. Much of her time was spent looking for Taiwanese iced desserts, and much of the trip was fruitless in that respect as she failed to find any in Taipei. She finally discovered what she was looking for on her last day in Kaohsiung: there, Li came upon a restaurant more than 100 years old that served exactly what she wanted: a treat of fruit and ice cream on shaved ice (right). Li says the dessert is very basic but 'very fresh and very tasty'. She also visited Taiwan to try its plentiful fruits. In Hong Kong, Li's mother cooks great Cantonese food for her. Her mum is from Taiwan, but she married a Hongkonger and came to live here 30 years ago. Since then she has cooked the local cuisine. Eating out often, Li likes many types of food, especially Cantonese, Shanghainese and Italian. 'There's not much authentic Taiwanese food in Hong Kong,' she says. Li finds Hong Kong an interesting place to explore the world of wine.
