Pasha de Cartier Skeleton Flying Tourbillon
Two years ago, the French brand introduced its skeleton timepiece featuring bridges, which also serve as the dial, in the shape of Roman numerals. This year, the parts and wheels gather at the centre of the 42mm white gold case, freeing up space for a more transparent dial at the periphery and readable time indexes of engraved Arabic indices three, nine and 12 with black transfers. The flying tourbillion - driven by a movement featuring a skeletonised barrel with visible springs - takes up the six o'clock position. One hundred individually numbered timepieces (HK$1.03 million) have been produced.

Meticulous skill has been employed to cut and trim the plates and bridges to reveal the driving force of this timepiece, so a 360-degree transparent sapphire crystal is set inside a 41mm platinum case to give the wearer an optimal view of it from the front and back as well as the sides. Frequent travellers will find its time zone function handy, as it's possible to adjust the hour hand without stopping the watch. Limited to 88 pieces, this timepiece (HK$402,500) is water resistant to 100 metres and fitted with a matte black leather strap featuring a polished platinum buckle.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Skeleton Double Flying Tourbillon
While most skeleton movements are created by cutting away non-essential parts of an existing movement before embellishing with engraving, this Swiss watchmaker designs its calibres specifically as skeleton movements. The open-worked double flying tourbillon moving at a rate of one rotation per minute steals the limelight, while the black rhodium-plated bridges are decoratively carved to fit the bold 45mm white gold case featuring a charcoal flange, and a fluted bezel gives a masculine edge. The watch (HK$2.04 million) is limited to 88 pieces and has a power reserve of 48 hours.
