Celebrity knitters cast on and get clicking to bring some winter warmth to underprivileged families

For the posh 'it' girls in town, knitting does not seem to be a likely hobby, but a group of local ladies were willing to join the knitting club for a good cause.

An array of celebrity models, actresses and designers came out en masse last Saturday at the Lane Crawford store in Central's IFC mall to knit wool squares which will be crocheted together into blankets for Lane Crawford and Club Monaco's charity campaign in aid of the Crossroads Foundation.

The organisers pledged to donate at least 3,000 blankets to underprivileged families in Hong Kong and overseas. Since the campaign was launched about two weeks ago, participants have knitted more than 2,000 squares and will continue until Christmas Day.

The celebrities seemed surprisingly handy around the wool and needles; especially model Kathy Chow Man-kei, who claimed to be a skilled craftswoman.

'I can finish knitting a neck warmer in just one week,' she said.

Chow might have knitted one for her puppy love boyfriend, but not her current beau because she barely has time for that.
