Eyeshadow palettes this winter range from dramatic smoky tones to bold shimmers and earthy neutrals.

Becca's Lost Weekend palette (HK$550) has three earthy shades: dark chocolate brown, light tan in matt finish and a shimmery caramel. The powders are silky, go on smoothly, are easy to blend and can be worn alone or layered. We love the subtle looks that can be created with all three. Available at Lane Crawford stores.

Guerlain's Les Ombres de Nuit (HK$400) is part of the brand's Belle de Nuit Christmas collection and includes light green, midnight blue, silver and matt black. Apply the green or silver; next apply the blue to the outer lid, sparingly, as it is quite dark; and use the matt black to line. The colours stay in place for hours. Available at Guerlain stores and counters.

Estee Lauder's Pure Colour Film Noir palette (HK$370) features shimmering grey and white, taupe, a dark metallic grey and matt black. Apply lighter shades as a base coat and use the dark grey on the outer corners of the eye. Spread a thin line of black across the upper and lower lash lines. Great for smoky eyes. Available at Estee Lauder stores and counters.

Clarins' Eye Quartet Mineral palettes (HK$300) each feature four shades in satin and iridescent finishes. Made with mineral pigments, the powders can be applied wet or dry. When dry, they are soft and powdery; when wet, they are creamy and rich and easier to apply. We like the pastel palette for day and the indigo palette for night. Available at Clarins stores and counters.
