WITH 10 hotels to its name, Stanford Hotels International (SHI) says the time has come for the group to start establishing its name further through a US$2 billion expansion plan. SHI is headed by Mr C W Lui, who is also the chairman of Tak How Investments which owns the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in Tsim Sha Tsui. As a first step towards establishing greater prominence for the Stanford name, Tak How Investment announced that the Holiday Inn Worldwide franchise for the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza would not be renewed when it expired on September 30 next year. The property will then be renamed Grand Stanford Harbour View. Despite the mushrooming of many Asian hotel groups, Stanford Hotels' executive vice-president Heinz-Ullrich Roelz believes that there is still room for at least one more. 'As long as a hotel group can provide a high standard of service and value for money, it will be able to do well and attract customers,' he said. SHI aims to own 30 properties in 15 cities in the course of the next 10 years.
